Research - The W.W. Salisbury Memorial Research Library

Committed to fostering research and understanding of all forms of science and engineering, this comprehensive library is a valuable collection of books, journals, and papers by industry pioneers. It includes extensive collections in the areas of broadcasting, communications, and computation, as well as the various fields of engineering. The core collection -- which once belonged to W.W. Salisbury, Paul Beroza, Morgan McMahon, James Early, John R. Pierce, K.D. Smith, Robert Rider, Steve Egbert, Jack Aldridge, Ivan Saddler, George Mann, Ed Sharpe and many other leaders in industry and academia -- represents an extensive concentration of research material. This library is the only one of it's type in Arizona.

This facility is a non-circulating library. Research assistants are available to guide your quest.

FORMAL FEES FOR ASSISTANCE AND RESEARCH
SMECC works with researchers from print and electronic media, intellectual property specialists, teachers, students of all ages, and many other constituencies. We also provide assistance with still and moving image requests relating to the history of computing.

SMECC will provide free of charge a rough preliminary search of our collections to ascertain if the Collection contains relevant archival materials in your area of interest.

If materials are available and on-site research is required, researchers must be members of the SMECC. Membership rates vary depending on the use of the SMECC Collection; individuals representing professional entities for which the outcome of the research is financial in nature (for example: lawyers, consultants, corporations, the motion picture industry) are required to become members of the Museum at the Corporate level ($1,000) in order to access  the collection for research purposes. Research projects that are educational in nature require membership at the general level; $XX for students and $XX for educators/researchers. Please see our membership information Page for more information about becoming a member.

As a knowledge based institution, SMECC is always pleased to assist researchers seeking media-based objects relating to communications and computation. Currently our collection photographs and videos offers a historical perspective on the development of communications and computations and its impact on society.  If you are interested in obtaining one of our images, please submit your written request via email to library@smecc.org

Please include your name, contact information as well as how the images will be used and detailed information about the images for which you require photographs and/or videos including  manufacturer, model, approximate date manufactured, and title.

Each project is considered unique and will be evaluated separately and processing fees are charged according to the intended use of the images provided
