Meeting at the Bonneville Media Office Phoenix!

Yes,  Bonneville Media consisting of  KTAR Sports 620 AM, KTAR 92.3 Talk Radio and 98.7 The Peak in their new facilities at   7740 N. 16th Street, Suite 200, Phoenix invited SBE chapter 9 of Phoenix  to a Harris Corporation/SCMS sponsored educational event, studio tour and scrumptious lunch Wednesday, May 25, 2011

During the business portion of the Chapter 9 SBE meeting, new officers Eric Schecter, Chair; Gil Aykroyd Vice Chair; and Robert Reymont, secretary/treasurer assumed their offices.

The luncheon program was  “A New Approach to Solid-State High-Power FM Amplifiers” presented by Timothy Anderson of Harris Corporation.

Continued innovations have led to a new generation of solid-state RF power amplifier technology providing significantly higher output power, density, and greater efficiency resulting in lower purchase and operating costs with improved RF performance and robustness on par with tube based RF power amplifiers. These improvements in cost and efficiency will make solid state transmitters more cost competitive.

Anderson  discussed recent developments in solid state device technology along with the challenges and solutions in high-power RF amplifier design, cooling, combining, control and power supply systems for the next generation of solid state, high-power, digital / FM transmitters.

Tim Anderson is a broadcast systems engineer and the Manager of Strategic Business and Product Development for Radio in the Broadcast Communications Division of Harris Corporation. Anderson  is currently leading the product development efforts on Harris’ new family of Flexiva™ of FM Transmitters.

In addition to a busy work schedule Anderson is also a national SBE board member.

After the luncheon of ribs, chicken  and additional goodies, attendees were treated to a tour of the  new studio facilities led by Chief Engineer Gary Smith. We even ran into Pat McMahon working in one of the studios!
